Although Canyon Lake wasn’t officially incorporated until 1990 the land it sits on has an interesting history with the Railroad Canyon Dam being built in 1927! Even before the dam was constructed to create a reservoir in the San Jacinto River, families were living and building on the land now known as Canyon Lake.
With close to 15 miles of shoreline the surface soils that make up Canyon Lake are very similar to what can be found throughout Riverside County… lots and lots of expansive clay soils!
