Silt As Soil

Brian’s Tip of The Day for October 10th was all about silt as soil.

As Brian explained in the Tip Of The Day, silt is a soil type that is sort of a combination between sand and clay. It has a sparkly appliance and is finer than clay. When dry, silt can almost feel like flour in your hands. However, when silt is wet, it is very slippery. Therefore, if your home’s foundation is on silt soils, you may experience some settlement issues due to the drying out of the silt or the wetting of the silt. If you are unsure about the type of soils beneath your homes foundation and fear that you may have some sort of settlement issues, contact us right away and we will gladly send out a project consultant to take a look.
