VERTICAL FOOTING CRACKS
In Brian’s tip of the day from September 14th, he discusses vertical footing cracks.
WHAT ARE VERTICAL FOOTING CRACKS?
Vertically footing cracks go straight up and down or slightly diagonally within 30° of vertical. These vertical cracks are fairly common in most homes and occur because of the added compression the structure has on the concrete footing. Some believe that these cracks are not necessarily a structural concern, however, they can lead to damage for the home’s foundations if not fixed properly. Masking the problem by simply fixing with epoxy will only prolong the inevitable.
