In our September 11th Tip Of The Day, Brian discusses a few different types of concrete cracks typically seen in our industry!

In this blog, I will discuss several different types of cracks that you may see in the concrete areas around your homes. There are several different types of cracks that occur in concrete along with different reasons as to why those cracks appear. The most common type of cracking in concrete is a shrinkage crack. These cracks can occur as soon as a few hours after your concrete has been poured and finished. Expansion cracks are mostly weather-related that occur typically in very hot climates. The hot weather can cause great stress on concrete, causing it to expand and push against objects in its path. Heaving cracks are a type of crack that is caused by the movement brought on by freeze/thaw cycles. Settlement cracks are very common over trenches where utility lines or plumbing pipes are buried. You will also see settlement cracks where trees and plants have been planted or removed. Overloading the slab will cause cracks to form easily if you add excessive weight to your concrete slab. Premature drying occurs when the concrete dries too quickly or loses moisture during the drying process. Off Set cracks, most commonly seen in our industry, are a type of cracks that occur from the difference in the height of the concrete. Our professional concrete crack repair team is here to help!
