When paying for foundation repair, whether it’s due to foundation settlement or foundation heave, it’s generally a good idea to get a few quotes. As Stephen King says, ensure you’re comparing dollars to doughnuts.
When it comes to comparing costs, it can be tempting to go with the lowest quote. As you will find out, this is not always the best approach. You get what you pay for. The three primary areas to compare and consider are Scope of Work, Quality, and Warranties.
- Scope of work – the empirical extent of work, usually measured by linear or square feet, amount of product, and what techniques are being utilized.
- Quality – is the best methodology being utilized in conjunction with the best product.
- Warranty – who has the best, longest-lasting warranty with the most coverage.
As we’ve mentioned before:
- Don’t pay more for less (in terms of scope, quality, and warranties)
- Don’t pay more for more that you don’t need (in terms of scope, quality, and warranties)
- Don’t clench pennies that will sink you later (literally when it comes to foundation repair)
We discuss this in our article 3 Reasons to Get a Second Opinion for Foundation Repair and in a Dalinghaus old-school throwback Tip of the Day Video (see below).
In this article, we are going to list a few quick dos and don’ts when considering foundation repair cost comparisons.
Do Compare Costs of Bids from More than One Company
We here at Dalinghaus Construction Inc. strongly encourage you to receive multiple quotes. In fact, we’ve written many blog posts about the best foundation repair companies in your area.
Note – Okay, if you live in Southern California or Arizona, our immediate working vicinity, we have blogs covering your area.

- 5 Best Foundation Repair Companies in Mission Viejo
However, before even reaching out to a foundation repair company for an foundation inspection, you want to thoroughly research:
- Peruse their Google Reviews (anything less than 4.5 is bordering on sketchy)
- Look for concrete examples in the glowing and dismal reviews
- Research to ensure they are up-to-date on all corresponding permits.
Don’t Forget Warranties
Here at Dalinghaus Construction Inc., we offer a lifetime warranty for all of our steel pier systems (push piers, helical piers, and helical tiebacks).
You read that right: lifetime. Not your lifetime, the lifetime of the piers themselves. And, since our steel pier systems are all galvanized – they last forever.
Even better: our warranties are transferrable upon resale of your home and/or inheritance.
So, if you sell your home after foundation repair, our warranty covers the new owner. When you kick the bucket, whoever is set to inherit your home is covered.
So, it’s imperative to compare warranties in terms of scope, timeframe, and transferability.
Don’t Always Go with the Lowest Bid
We get it. Foundation repair is expensive. Often a lower price tag can be indicative of cutting corners, limited warranties, and lower quality product/service.
This is not to say it’s not laudable to get the best deal possible, but do consider the whole package besides the final price line.
