What to know about slab jacking, and when it's the right call.
Every slab jacking project is the same physics: material injected beneath the slab cannot compress, so it fills the void first and then pushes the concrete upward as injection continues. The control comes from doing it in stages. Small access holes are drilled through the sunken sections, the lifting material goes in a little at a time, and the crew tracks elevations continuously so the slab stops exactly at grade rather than overshooting. With polyurethane, the two part foam expands within seconds of injection and reaches working strength in minutes, so the lift is fine grained and the surface is usable almost immediately. With cement slurry, the older method, the lift comes from pumped volume and pressure, and the heavy material adds load to the soil below. Either way, the material stays permanently as the slab's new base, which is why Dalinghaus lifts with water resistant foam. Radar scan where the slab is indoors
Outdoor flatwork goes straight to the access holes. An interior floor gets a ground penetrating radar scan completed before work commences, and a post tension slab requires one every time. The scan reads the concrete thickness and the spacing and depth of what sits inside the slab, and the lift points are placed around it. Two hour minimum, and an additional cost where the proposal does not already carry it.
Drill small access holes
Holes are drilled through the slab at the lift points, coin sized for foam, smaller than the holes a slurry lift needs.
Inject and lift in stages
Lifting material goes in incrementally while the crew monitors elevations, raising the slab in controlled steps until it sits at grade.
Patch and verify
Access holes are patched, final elevations are checked against the starting survey, and the slab is typically back in service the same day.
