How it works

What to know about helical piers, and when it's the right call.

Helical piers work like giant screws anchored in stable earth. The helix plates convert rotation into downward force, pulling the shaft through weak surface soil until it reaches strata with real bearing capacity. Installation torque is the proof: as resistance climbs, the crew reads capacity in real time and keeps advancing until the pier meets the engineered target for your home's loads. A steel bracket then ties the pier to the foundation footing, and hydraulic jacks transfer the structure's weight from failing soil to the pier. Because each pier is verified by its own torque log rather than assumed, the system's strength is measured, not hoped for. The galvanized coating resists corrosion for the long haul, and the piers sit far below the moisture cycles that made the clay above move in the first place.

The symptoms that usually lead to helical piers are on the foundation repair problem signs page, alongside the other signs that point to the same underlying cause.

Installation Process

How we install helical piers.

Step 01

Free evaluation and pier plan

Floor elevation measurements and an inspection determine whether piers are the right fix, how many the home needs, and where they go. You get the findings in writing.

Step 02

Access and excavation

The crew exposes the footing at each pier location, a small excavation about the size of a bistro table, protecting landscape where possible.

Step 03

Drive the piers, log the proof

Hydraulic drive heads screw each galvanized pier to depth. Torque and depth are logged on every pier, and driving continues until capacity is verified.

Step 04

Bracket and transfer the load

Steel brackets connect the piers to the footing, and the home's weight is transferred to stable strata. Where the structure allows, we lift toward level, often closing settlement cracks.

Step 05

Backfill and verify

Excavations are backfilled, the site is cleaned, and final elevations are compared against the starting survey so you can see exactly what changed.

Diagnosis First

Which pier fits your situation?

Helical and push piers do the same job through different physics, and some settling floors need neither. Match yours.

Lighter structure, porch, or addition

Real settlement, modest structural weight

Helical piers are the answer where the structure cannot supply driving weight: the screw plates pull the pier down under its own torque, and the torque log proves capacity independent of the building above.

Anchored to solid ground.

Steel piers screw down through the unstable soil under your home and lock into deep, solid ground. Your home's weight then rests on that, not on shifting clay.

Proof, not promises
Every pier is verified by its installation torque, measured and documented as it goes in
The twisting force it takes to drive each pier tells us exactly how much it can hold. We measure it live during installation, and the ground under your home proves the number before we ever set your house on it.
Why it holds
01
Galvanized steel. Shafts and helix plates are galvanized steel, which helps them resist rust underground.
02
Made for the soil. Depth is never guessed. The pier keeps going until the ground proves it can carry your home, in expansive clay, loose fill, or desert soil alike.
03
Low impact. Compact equipment, minimal digging, no concrete cure time. Piers carry load the day they go in.
04
Data you keep. Installation torque is documented for each pier, and the readings are provided to you.
Pier size, depth, and count are specified by the evaluation. Diagram schematic, not to scale.

Don't see your question here? Our team is happy to help. Reach out anytime.

As deep as the soil demands. Depth is not the target, verified capacity is: the crew advances each pier until its torque reading proves it has reached soil that can carry the engineered load for your home. In our service area that commonly means passing entirely through the surface clay that caused the settlement.
